Seven Springs Vineyards is the realisation of a long‑held dream rather than a corporate wine venture. The estate was founded by Tim and Vaughan Pearson, a British couple whose passion for wine deepened through years of travel, tasting, and industry exposure in Europe and South Africa. After decades in business in the UK, the Pearsons set out to find land in a cool‑climate region capable of producing elegant, expressive wines.
In 2006, they purchased 12 hectares of previously undeveloped farmland along the R320 in the Hemel‑en‑Aarde Valley, near Hermanus in the Western Cape. The site, influenced by the nearby Atlantic Ocean and defined by Bokkeveld shale soils, offered ideal conditions for varieties such as Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah, and Sauvignon Blanc. Vine planting began in 2007, and the first wines were released in 2010 under the guidance of winemaker Riana van der Merwe.
From the outset, Seven Springs committed to low‑intervention viticulture and winemaking, focusing on balance, restraint, and terroir expression rather than power. As the vines matured and an on‑site winery was completed in 2018, the wines gained complexity and precision. Today, Seven Springs is recognised as a boutique producer whose wines reflect both the clarity of the Hemel‑en‑Aarde landscape and the patient, values‑driven vision behind its creation
